Game Thread Game One: Ohio State 38, Youngstown St. 6 (final)

But right now, with everyone given a 12th game and being "allowed" to play a I-AA team, it will have zero--ZERO--impact on us reaching the title game...the 12th game is essentially a "freebie".
Except that LSU & USC, who everyone is chasing according to CFN, do not have those types of teams on their schedules. It's very possible that they have to lose for us to get a shot at the national title.

That must be why you had nearly invisible text in your sig :roll2:

I bet he wouldn't take a snap at quarterback. Next...

(Now let's all pause while BN27 and/or jwins waste more time out of their life while they search the entire fucking site for my posts back then for the slim chance they may prove me wrong in my wording).

No need, the point was made, even if 27 misworded his "zinger."

You honestly believe it's 100% impossible for the I-AA thing to hurt us, even when LSU & USC do not have any on their schedule? I can buy that it's unlikely, much like it's unlikely that we'll be anywhere near the title game this season.

or we could all just realize that just because you say something won't happen, doesn't mean it won't happen.

I don't think playing YSU will keep us from the NCG this year, because I don't think we'll be in a position to go there this year. But you saying it flat out won't influence it is just as intelligent as you saying Ginn will flat out never take a snap as a QB.

playing ysu isn't going to help our sos. but lets be honest with ourselves here. if the bucks are watching the national championship game from their couches, it sure as hell isn't going to be because we played ysu.

now, is there ANY chance we could actually discuss the game we are going to play against ysu instead of worry about whether or not we will be invited to the nc before a single game has been played?

It's been almost a week since anyone discussed the NC ramifications of this game.......

How about YOU lead us off in game discussion. :wink2:

I'll lead it off with my crazy "prediction," again. I still say that Ohio State moves the ball up and down the field at will, but has trouble scoring. I forget the exact score of my prediction. Something like 27-10, in a game that isn't really as close as the score appears.

I think it will be a very conservative game for the obvious reasons:

#1) It's Youngstown State and Tressel isn't going to try and run up the score.

#2) We are breaking in quite a bit of new offensive players and will be looking to rotate quite a few in and out.

I do however think we get in the 30+ range and hold them to under 14 points.

#1) While Tressel won't "run up" the score against his old team, he won't hold back early and he realizes that we must win by a fairly large margin against a I-AA opponent.

#2) You don't break in players by rotating them in and out, you break them in by letting them play. I think we'll see our first-string offense and defense almost exclusively throughout the first half (which of course includes the normal rotation of linemen on both sides). Then if we're up by a comfortable margin by halftime or so (which we should) we'll see the second- and third-stringers come in.

Penn State beat YSU at home last year 37-3. While this year's YSU should be even better than last year's team that made to the playoff semi-finals, we should have little problems in beating YSU by 28+ points.

I agree for the most part. Let me expand a bit...

#1) I agree whole heartedly, but I think a 30+ point effort with the opposing team around 10 or so points is a fine effort.

#2) I only meant positions that were still competetive by the time fall came around, not every position. My fault for not making that clear.

A little off-topic here (just a little), but is there a maximum number of Div-IAA teams a team can play in a year? Also, has the rule about the number of wins a team needs to have to be elligible for a bowl game changed at all with respect to Div-IAA teams? I believe that back in the '90's, there was no consideration seperating wins against Div-IA teams and Div-IAA teams. (i.e. a win was a win, regardless of the opponent.) They later changed it to you can only count a win over a Div-IAA team once every 4 years. Has that changed since then?

It's now limited to 1 per year, I think it changed in 2005.

The old rule did indeed state that only 1 win against a 1-AA opponent could be counted toward bowl eligibility every 4 years.
