Any more rusty than Zwick was yesterday? I thought Smith can get as much practice time as Zwick (or maybe more), and he'll be fine.

I agree with most of you - I'm comfortable with either of them. I think Zwick starts, based on the fact that he played well yesterday, and because he didn't do anything to get the media pissed at Ohio State in the off-season. Play him for a quarter or a half. If things are going well, and the game is close, keep Zwick in the game. You don't want to fix something unless it's broken. If things are not going well, Tress has a decision. I think that taking a QB out based on his performance can shake his confidence. Is that more important than the game? Probably not. Maybe Smith can turn the game around in OSU's favor.

If Zwick is playing well, and the Bucks are up 21-3, that's an excellent time to put Smith in. Put him in for 1-2 series. If he's playing well, keep him in more.

I don't usually like a 2-QB system. But this may be a case that isn't so bad. With the way that Smith lit up Michigan, you can't just tell him that he's done. If they use 2 QB's, at least don't switch back and forth a lot. 1 or 2 switches for the entire game (like yesterday) is the right amount.

Zwick played well yesterday, but I like a QB with fire and a lot of confidence. I think Smith brings those to the table where in my opinion Zwick is very laid back and keeps all of his emotions off the field. Regardless, I have confidence in both, just more in Smith and his tight passes and quick feet.

This being said, I like that both will play (according to JT) next week as Texas' game planning is going to have to suck with two polar opposite style QBs (now guaranteed) to be coming at them. Makes scheming very tough. A HUGE advantage for us IMO. :)

Now there's some bulletin board material. And a stupid statement, if you ask me. Hey, Vince, congrats on running it up on an NAIA school, half of whose members lost their homes in the hurricane last weekend. Yep, you sold me. Boy, if I wasn't fired up to watch us pound UT into the ground before reading this comment, I sure am now.

Zwick played very well, and earned the right to start next week. I'm a little worried about Texas' defensive line, and I think that Smith would probably do a little better against it if forced out of the pocket. On that note, I also worry about Smith being rusty, and making some bad decisions in his first live action since last November. I know that he has praticed against our 1's a lot, but you cannot replace game experience.

I'm comfortable with whoever plays next week, I think Tressel goes with whoever has the hot hand. Zwick will start, I'd be willing to bet on it......he did nothing to lose that role I think.

man its awesome havin 2 quarterbacks that can start, but i like Zwick because he did the right things and got us a win yesterday, but then i love how Smith can run and can electrify and dominate when hes goin. But you cant not start Zwick this week after he played, but i dont want Smith to rot and hopefully they can bring him in a little into the game to give Zwick a break and also to see how he plays.

Big props to JZ for the post game interview. It is all about the team with that kid. They tried to bate him into saying that he deserved to start, he said it was up to the coaching staff and he would help the team any way he could.
I have the up most respect for him, starter or not. He is a class act, and that seems to be a rarity these days.

Good point Fol...but if you look back to the Smith interviews, he will speak in the very same Tressel-eque way. JT has these kids media prepared for sure. Regardless, I still say Smith would have put up more points than JZ yesterday...especially in the red zone.

I posted the comment in the starting QB thread...and I'll say it here again.

Thank goodness for having two awesome QBs who play two entirely different styles of football. An all out GENIUS move by JT saying that both will play this upcoming Saturday. That makes Texas' gameplanning approach twice as difficult right away. I LOVE IT. Young might be amazing, but we know what's coming and we can channel 100% of our scheming into his mobile QB style. This game is going to be so much fun.

I don't care who is playing QB. But if that guy was running the team and we build up a 21-3 lead, I sure as hell don't want to switch QB's then!! (Unless we're down to the last 3 minutes of the game).

This isn't La-Lafayette that's coming into town next week. If we get off to a great start, let's keep doing whatever it is we're doing.

Good point, Folanator. JZ handled that post-game interview ideally, he sounded a little like JT stepping around the controversial questions.

I went nuts on that play. There was no excuse for not seeing Holmes. Those kinds of missed opportunities to can back to bite in games against teams like Texas, where we will need every score we can get. Overall, Zwick looked quite good, but I still think we'll need Smith, if for not anything more than giving us an extra dimension (more of a running threat) and Smith seems to be better at picking up loose receivers on the run.
