Game Thread Illinois 28, Ohio State 21 (final)

It doesn't make a loss to Illinois and Ron Zook feel any better.

Ron Zook can coach and he showed it today.

The Defensive coaches had NO answer for that offense. They ran at will and the secondary was out of position the entire game.

Great game by the Illini.

Ohio State didn't deserve to win.

Out-played on both sides of the ball, and out-coached.

First time since Northwestern 2004 that the Bucks lost a game that they should have won.

Wait til next year ... again.

Juice Williams with the game of his career.

Whenever you can't stop the run, on your home turf, you don't deserve to win.

Hopefully, the coaches will be more inclined to recruit more defensive tackles after this game. If this game doesn't do it, I don't know what will. If there's anything I have been criticizing the coaching staff for, and have been doubting this team on, it's their ability to stop an opponent when they run right at us.

The middle of the defense is not something you mess around with.

.02:

-First a tip of the cap to Illinois, they played the best game they are capable of for a full 4 quarters.

-Perfect storm for a loss. Defense abused, TB's worst day, Juice Williams doing a VY impersonation.

-As Gatorubet and others discussed this week, this is the problem we will always have in the B10 with a Zook team. They'll lose 3 games they have no business losing then play that one perfect game a year and beat someone they have no business beating.

-Very reminiscent of the Florida game. In game adjustments didn't come quick enough or never came at all.

Oh well, we will all feel a lot better this time next week.

Hats off to Illinois and a great game. They had what, only one holding penalty? That, along with zero turnovers, it's amazing.

Our defense really had a bad game today. They never should have allowed back-to-back third-and-long quarterback draws to be run successfully. That's unacceptable.

Shake it off, practice hard, and win The Game. That's all the matters, now. The National Championship is out of the picture, but the Rose Bowl is ours for the taking.

And also....thank god Boeckman threw the interception in the end zone and we didn't get to kick the field goal. The terror of that score re-emerging might have cost me some sleep......eh, probably not. But whatever.

:oh:

Pathetic that we couldint stop a QB draw on 3rd and 10

defense got exposed again

Not much you can do when you have a mobile QB running the spread... You have to have tremendous speed and stellar play calling (ie Florida last year). Can't win em all I guess.

Congratulations Illinois, I guess. The most disappointing part of this game was watching the fighting at the end.

This one's in the books, so bring on Michigan!

Agreed. Congratulations to Ron Zook and that entire Illinois team. Played their guts out, wanted it more, and simply outclassed us. That deafening silence you hear is not just Ohio Stadium, but people questioning Ron Zook's ability to coach falling dreadfully silent. I would have felt much better about this game if that fight didn't break out, but I liked seeing Barton and Zook trying to put an end to it.

Take off the scarlet glasses, Kinch. Our defense has been worn down. I'd love for things to be different but they aren't.

My glasses weren't scarlet, they simply weren't defeatist. Watch some college football, you'll learn something.

If you give up the game definitively with minutes left, and down by one score, my respect for you is lost.

Sorry.

Just me.

I have, in the past, enjoyed the seats you gave up at the Shoe to watch some exciting comeback wins.

I'd be a little worried, as his MO is to win big games that he is not supposed to, and then fail to follow it up. That is why Zook and a freshman qb beat LSU in Baton Rouge the year that they won the BCS. That is why Zook beat FSU in Tally on the day that they dedicated Bobby Bowden Field, the first FSU defeat by UF at its house in many years.

He's the kind of Caoch who'll beat an Ohio State and then lose to Akron.

So while he is not a threat in general, he has to be on your radar, if for no other reason than his odd history of wins in big games.

Damn, we got zooked.

Tough loss guys. But a great year so far. We both had rebuilding years after January, but only one of us was ranked numer one and will likely go to a BCS Bowl....

Again, you have accomplished so much more than expected, and yes, it sucks, and that is not so comforting now.

Take it out on the weasels.
