Wow - the Yankees have to learn to treat people better. I will hate to see Posada or Rivera leave because of this...

Joe Torre was in line to make 8 million dollars had the Yankees won the World Series. Even the base salary of 5 million is pretty absurd. I like that Joe turned it down, it sends a message to Steinbrenner that no one else had ever tried to send.

But when the team submitted a one-year contract with a hefty pay cut, performance-based bonuses -- and no room to negotiate -- Torre was insulted and figured he had no choice but to walk away.
"The fact that somebody is reducing your salary is just telling me they're not satisfied with what you're doing," Torre said yesterday at a packed news conference in Rye Brook, N.Y. "There really was no negotiation involved. I was hoping there would be, but there wasn't."

Dodgers may replace Little with Torre as manager
For a kid who grew up in Brooklyn, maybe it's a perfect fit.
Multiple media reports late Monday night said that former New York Yankees manager Joe Torre could replace Grady Little as manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Sources told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney that the Dodgers are expected to fire Little.
Sources close to the situation told Olney on Monday afternoon that the Dodgers had maintained contact with Joe Girardi in the hope that his negotiations with the Yankees would fall apart and they could try to hire him.
