Finally watched Jurassic world with low expectations. I'm not sure I'd rewatch it but it was pretty fun for free.

Enjoyably shallow and spectacular action. The homages to the original were skrong.

Having watched this genre so many times before, it made the predictable plot and degeneration pretty fun to watch and mock at home as wannabe MST critics. I would have been noticeably less pleased if I paid for this (library).

The original is an all time classic. We're on movie 4 and it's an obvious reboot. Approach it as a mindless summer flick and it's worth it. Confuse it with something of substance or more than a money grab and you might be salty.

It received a number of solid reviews to my amazement. The trailer team for that movie should never work in that industry again. It looked horrible.

Not sure I'll watch it for awhile but I hope to be surprised.
Saw it recently - it was very good, pleasantly surprised. It's directed by the same guy who did the last 4 HP movies, so it has a lot of that same series feel, but it's set in America and in the past, so that really sets it apart. Eddie Redmayne is fine, and it's ultimately a reset movie that's meant to set up the "adventures of young Dumbledore", but it has some very memorable moments and especially some fun side characters.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 on Friday night. It was every bit as fun and hilarious as I had hoped. Baby Groot is life, especially dancing Baby Groot.

Also, I can't decide if Rocket being called a trash panda or triangular-faced monkey was better. And the post credit scenes are great.

Interesting thanks. I really liked the final 4 HP films. Perhaps the movie is better than the book (which I haven't consumed either), but any follow up to the main canon was going to be met with some strong disdain.

Hopefully the young Dumbledore series is done right and leads to the Marauders. I just don't trust Rowling to handle the scope of her world.

I thought the first 15 min or so were iffy, but pretty good after that. So don't regret your decision right away when you do eventually watch it.

Been meaning to watch some older Spielberg movies (with John Williams scores) and finally got around to watching one of them this morning, 1941. That was absolutely hilarious, but I knew it would be once I realized it was all the same group from Animal House. I think the next up will either be Sugarland Express or Empire of the Sun.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

My main takeaway from this movie is
it's a terrible idea to lock up a precog for years on end and then put her in charge of orphans.

I enjoyed it but felt it was just an alright movie (though I thought I'd dislike it from the trailers). My wife felt the character development was lacking and she didn't care about any of them. I liked the supporting characters and Ferrell was solid. I did not enjoy Redmayne's acting until the last 1/3 of the movie. It should be a good setup for what is hopefully to come.

The FX studio must have lost their minds when they saw the budget for this movie, because it had to be astronomical.

Split: it was too slow for the action set, but it was the kind of slow burn I really like. Acting was good, and there's just something about the lead girl, I could watch her read the phone book. Shamalamadingbat still knows fuck all about ending a movie (he even admits as much during the alternate), but at least he didn't go for the stupid twist to be a twist. Nice cameo at the end too.

The cameo at the end caught me slightly off guard for the first time in a long while with a Shamylanahahaha movie. The tie in to another movie is easily the best premise to a sequel that I didn't see coming possibly ever.
On top of the fact it gives established characters and a good story a chance at moving from their limited scope into a greater, shared universe, might actually be his best material thus far.
