New info on Madden.. from http://insideblog.easports.com/default.aspx?PageIndex=1

Page 4 has some cool player rating stuff.

  • PRO-TAK tackling engine will allow up to 9 players gang tackle.

  • Tackle direction can be manipulated.

  • New OL/DL system allows for true QB pockets and "flow" to the run game.

  • QB can break out of sack animations after the animations have started.

  • Fumbles can change hands at the bottom of a pile (I think this is going to be a mini-game type thing.. not a fan of lame mini-games)

  • Player size/skill/type will change how difficult it is to tackle a person. So, what I'm hoping is that Darren Sproles won't be trucking Patrick Willis anymore. It should just never happen.
  • Defenders with higher "hit stick" ratings should be able to move a group of tacklers.
  • Size/weight of players affect the outcome of the yardage.
Apparently there's going to be a bigger gap between the great players, good players, average players and bad players. I like this. It's far too easy to build a team in franchise mode with top 10 players at each position.

Link to more rookie ratings (has many more than two rounds, but they're in order by position, rather than draft order). Link has all OSU players drafted, and Boone. http://insideblog.easports.com/cfs-...0_ea/ALL_5F00_ROOKIE_5F00_DATA_5F00_Draft.xls

I found some interesting (to me, at least) ratings (40 times from the NFL):

A comparison of LBs:
Laurinaitis 75 SPD, 86 ACC, 4.88 40
Maualuga 80 SPD, 88 ACC, 4.91 40
Freeman 84 SPD, 87 ACC, 4.74 40
Matthews 83 SPD, 86 ACC, 4.67 40
Maiava 77 SPD, 80 ACC, 4.83 40
Cushing 84 SPD, 90 ACC, 4.74 40
Curry 86 SPD, 90 ACC, 4.56 40

So Laurinaitis runs faster than Maualuga, but is made slower in the game, even though both play the real game fast. Maiava's SPD is between them, even though he runs faster than both.
Freeman and Cushing are both faster than Matthews, despite the fact that Matthews was faster than both. And Curry is just barely faster than Freeman and Cushing, despite being almost 2 tenths faster.

A comparison of WRs:
Robiskie 87 SPD, 85 ACC, 4.59 40
Hartline 82 SPD, 87 ACC, 4.58 40
Deon Butler 93 SPD, 92 ACC, 4.38 40
Derrick Williams 89 SPD, 93 ACC, 4.68 40
Massaquoi 83 SPD, 91 ACC, 4.66 40
Hakeem Nicks 88 SPD, 86 ACC, 4.63 40

Huh?!? The slowest of this group is 2nd fastest? Also, Curry (LB from above) is slower than 3 of the WRs that he ran faster than.

A comparison of DBs:
Vontae Davis 92 SPD, 97 ACC, 4.49 40
Donald Washington 87 SPD, 90 ACC, 4.49 40

IMO, they should have similar SPD ratings, but Vontae should be significantly better with his coverage and awareness ratings.

Oh well, I'm sure they factored in "game speed" and such, but it looks as though a number of players were shafted or elevated due to perception rather than a fair comparison.

Yeah.. didn't make much sense. At least they got the stuff other than speed right that I saw. JL looks like he'll be a brick wall defender (or close to it), he has a good awareness rating compared to other rookie LBs, Robo had the best hands and was fifth in spectacular catch (wasn't on the list for route running though..).

Beanie has a 97 OVR stiff arm.

Robo ran a 4.49, not 4.59. Not sure why NFL.com lists a 4.59.

The best Madden year was 05, and 04...after that they started giving Offensive a set animation and Defense a set animation. In 09 you couldn't even "Moss" someone 1 on 1, the defensive player had the advantage even if he was a foot shorter than the wideout (talk about dumb). They need to go back to what made it a FUN GAME...make it user skill battles.
