Pirates tidbits (2011)

Despite two tough extra inning losses (one of them questionable to say the least) the Bucs managed to go 2-2 in Atlanta. Given the Braves have the second best record in the NL, I'll take it. :pirate2:

Ten games in 10 days versus the Cardinals, Braves and Phillies are likely to indicate whether the Bucs continue their improbable run or begin fading back to the curve.

1-2 vs STL
2-2 vs ATL
0-3 vs PHIL

The good news is we're done playing the fucking Phillies. The bad news is that 3-7 mark included 1-3 in extra innings. Close doesn't count.

Still, 54-52 says 28-28 the rest of the way means the losing ends with 82 wins. That is still the goal. Anything else, realistically, is gravy.

Nice to see the Bucs be buyers, and not spend a lot to get a couple of veteran bats without mortgaging the future. Looking forward to see if Lee and Ludwick can help over the next couple months.

Since peaking at 6 games over (53-47) the term regressing to the mean comes to mind as the Bucs have dropped 7 of 8 to fall back to .500. The downturn began with the 19 inning loss* in ATL. :ohwell:

Hell, even the Cubs are beating them now. The Bucs have owned them the last 2 seasons, including last year's 57 win debacle (11 wins versus Chicago).

For the first time since 1959 the Cubs sweep a four game series in Pittsburgh. It is also the longest winning string for them this season. :ohwell:

Looks like the Bucs hit the wall after 100 games. Another season going down the tubes. This one is actually worse because they teased us for awhile.

Baseball's lowest scoring team - the Padres - completes a three game sweep at PNC Park in which they scored 35 runs. That's 10 losses in a row after being 54-49 through 103 games. All I can do is laugh.

This week? Road trips to WS champion San Francisco and first place Milwaukee, where the Bucs lost 22 games in a row before winning 1 this year. The team record losing streak is 13 games. Good luck not breaking it.

Historical proportions. Leave it to the Bucs. :shake:

Leading the NL Central on July 25, the Pirates lost the next day when plate umpire Jerry Meals admittedly made the wrong call in the 19th inning at Atlanta. And by Sunday night, Pittsburgh had lost 10 in a row and suddenly found itself trailing by 10 games.

Never before had a first-place team plunged 10 games back in a 13-day span, STATS LLC said.

Coming off the worst homestand in their 125-year existence...

Bucs took 2 of 3 in San Francisco - go figure - but lost last night in Milwaukee.

They are now 3-34 their last 37 games in Milwaukee. Seriously.
