Pirates tidbits (2011)

Had to wait a couple of hours for the rain but the first national broadcast in years was a success, beating Tim Hudson and the Braves in ATL. That's a pretty nice win to get to 53-47. :pirate1:

I still have no idea how the fuck they are playing so well.

Me too, i look at their roster and think...there is no way this team finishes above .500. Yet here we are. Being a Pirates and Indians fan, its been a LONG time since I've enjoyed baseball.

53 wins in 100 games.

Took this many games to reach that mark before:
2010: 151 games
2009: 125
2008: 115
2007: 123
2006: 134
2005: 122

Not sure how they're doing it either, but I like it. My late aunt was one of the first female sportscasters way back when working in Pittsburgh, so I have some Pirates' connection there. Add in that their farm team plays here and it's cool to see the team doing well.

And the Buccos get hosed in the bottom of the 19th...guess the home plate umpire was tired of working.

That home plate ump is gonna get a lashing come morning. I think it was the 14th inning he called what should have been strike 3 a ball and Braves pitcher Martinez got pissed looked up at the sky and yelled. Ump stomps out onto the plate and starts acting as if he's kicking dirt off it while staring down the pitcher and honking loogies with his mask off. The announcers were blasting the ump telling him to put his mask on and get behind the plate.

I just saw peek-ins and highlights and read online but it sounds like it was quite an interesting 19innings.

The local announcers are almost making tonight's game unwatchable with their incessant belly-aching about instant replay. Bear in mind, they are not whining in FAVOR of it, they are trying to convince the fan base that instant replay is a bad idea that borders on splitting the atom in terms of difficulty.

The ridiculous, extreme scenarios they are portraying remind me of the illogical, emotional, "arguments are part of the game" rationalizations I hear regarding not having a playoff in one division of college football, over and over again.
