QB's are a dime a dozen....

WR's are a dime a dozen....

DE's are a dime a dozen....

Game-changing players at any position are rare. That's why Ohio State - who consitently recruits at the highest level - has had only 6 or 7 game-changing RB's since Archie Griffin (that's 44 years and counting). That's why Ohio State's record book is littered with names of forgettable RB's such as Jeff Logan, Paul Campbell, Ricky Johnson, Ricardo Volley, Calvin Murray, Jimmy Gayle, John Wooldridge, Vince Workman, Jaymes Bryant, Dante Lee, Jeff Cothran, Butler By'not'e, Pepe Pearson, Derek Combs, Lydell Ross, Brandon Saine, Boom Herron, Jordan Hall, etc. (all of whom were undoubtedly deemed "studs" back in the day.).

Let's not pretend that the staff is doing alright in RB recruiting. They are not. And that's by the standard that they themselves set. They have missed on all their top targets, and also their secondary targets. At this point, they are relying on luck, not skill. Good luck to them.

Have we talked about Dobbins yet? He seems awfully good to me. RB recruiting could obviously have gone better in 2020 but really, recruit and develop the OL like we have been doing and whoever we land will pan out just fine. Really liking what we are seeing from Teague and hearing great things on Steele and Crowley. I would have loved Robinson and/or Knighton, but with the rest of the class we have, I really think we'll be fine. And I think Dobbins' play this year will turn some heads on some major guys.

E.J. Smith and Bradford are just fine. If we had Jim Harbaugh on our sideline calling plays from the 80's and 90's we might have cause for concern but we don't. We have a NFL style offense. It is a pass first/pass oriented offense. Day is assembling the talent to get it where he wants it which is scary.

It isn't that people aren't seeing the big picture. It's that there are two distinct pictures.

Picture 1 is exactly what you describe. RB is a fungible position and as long as you are elite at QB/WR you can likely get away with any number of guys at RB.

Picture 2 is about recruiting itself. The OSU RB coaches identified their priority guys and missed on all of them. I that a trend? Is it just an odd set of circumstances this year? Of course OSU will be fine but if they keep missing on the guys they have clearly identified as being better than others, well then I think anyone can see that being an unappealing trend.

My guess that our missing out on all the man RB targets is that serious negative recruiting is happening and that they're being told that Ohio State is now a pass-driven offense, based on what Haskins did last year and the arrival of Fields for a minimum of two seasons here. I would also guess that when Dobbins rips off 1,500 yards rushing and ends up a Heisman finalist some of those same targets will come knocking at our door again.

My guess that our missing out on all the man RB targets is that serious negative recruiting is happening and that they're being told that Ohio State is now a pass-driven offense, based on what Haskins did last year and the arrival of Fields for a minimum of two seasons here. I would also guess that when Dobbins rips off 1,500 yards rushing and ends up a Heisman finalist some of those same targets will come knocking at our door again.

In reality we line up under center and our running game goes for 270+ a game with multiple backs getting serious burn.

I've always maintained that we can go back to Robinson in October when Texas has 2 loses and their only rushing attack is with their QB.

The tables will turn if we keep pushing 300 yards rushing.

Agreed but some posters are acting like Bradford and E.J.Smith are MAC level RB's. Both play against elite talent in Texas. When you watch their highlights it's not against "Sisters of the Poor".

We have Teague next year. Crowley and Chambers have looked good in limited reps.

Next year we have a great shot at two elite RB's if we only get 1 this year.

Like I mentioned before the transfer portal can help if we feel we need it.

A thing I applaud Day with is he ability to be flexible. He molds the offense to the skill set of his players. He doesn't try to force his players to fit in a system. This was a flaw with Urban. I think this is something that's gonna benefit Day and the Buckeyes.

Day is running the ball because he can. He knows his QB needs seasoning.

Plus having 4 great TEs and a mauling OL helps too... this OL is nasty.

I think we get a stud or two for 20. 21 has a chance to be disgustingly great offensive class again. The Edwards kid from Michigan would be great to steal.

Can't really put it any better than these posts. I think that Dobbins is going to shred the conference and there will be at least 1 high-caliber RB that signs on.

Can anyone in the 'know' speak to how the recruits are reacting to the way the Buckeyes are tearing it up now? Would imagine that some of the 4-5*s that were of the 'wait and see' mode are seeing that the 2019 edition of the Buckeyes are far improved from the 2018 guys. And on the D, with mainly the same old fellas......or possibly forced to look elsewhere, there was no dearth of suitors, so they fell in love with another program? But maybe still had feelings for the good old Bucks? If anyone can/will put forth some inside stuff, I/we would love to hear if tOSU is now back in the running. For instance, Georgia looks to sign two 5* RBs. OK, maybe they can keep them both happy, but tOSU situation might hold promise. Even the O guys that were hesitant can see that under Day, the offense is big and bold. So far, Day has provide 'enough balls' to keep everyone happy. We're set at WR for next year, and OL for several more, and the QB room could be getting jammed again. The D graduates 5 seniors/Young, and the heirs apparent are juniors. LB looks solid, except always need a game changer there. DB will lose 3-5 over this year and next, so 2020 would be a good time to reload. Just musing on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Go Bucks!

I haven't heard anything but it's always been my opinion we will make things interesting for Ricks and Robinson.
