2025 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Lots of recent movement and portal transfers, so it is time to update RB07OSU's slightly less than too early prediction for this class:

QB: Tavien St. Clair (QB is a wrap for '25)
RB: Marquise Davis (kitchen sink it to get this one done early, but I think the kid is a Buckeye through and through)
RB: Lamar "Bo" Jackson (trending well and he would be a great compliment to Davis, I could see both splitting carries...could use a third RB but I'm thinking portal for that one)
WR: Jayvan Boggs (done deal and a top WR in '25)
WR: Jaime Ffrench (actually think we are trending here after Saban retired)
WR: Winston Watkins (subbed him for Montgomery in this update, Hartline has probably put OSU out front by a bit after he decommitted)
TE: Nate Roberts (seems like when and not if, I wouldn't have any other TE ranked above him tbh....future stud)
TE: Luka Gilbert (another when and not if, could grow into an OT)
OL: Carter Lowe (now officially in, huge pickup)
OL: Avery Gach (excellent OT prospect and I honestly would be surprised if he doesn't pick the good guys)
OL: No idea really, there are some offers but we need 2-3 more in '25
DE: Zahir Mathis (such a great get at a position of need, great start on the DL class)
DE: Justin Hill (I think he turns into an edge rusher in the Jack role, but put him at DE)
DE: London Merritt (Ari Watford committed to Clemson, so this is my best guess here right now...we are right near the top and recruiting him hard...will be tough to beat Clemson but we need a 3rd DE and the other offers don't seem likely right now)
DT: Brandon Caesar (think he ends up at DT, if he is a priority then we land him)
DT: Jarquez Carter (we seem to be in the lead here, but we need more DT targets...not really seeing much and we need to restock after only landing Mensah in '24 at DT)
LB: Eli Lee (stud and no worries about a decommit)
LB: Tarvos Alford (left Melendez on here without realizing he committed elsewhere, but we are looking really good on Alford and frankly that would be better...Alford is one of the best LBs in the country)
LB: Madden Faraimo (I will stick with this pick, but Nasir Wyatt is one to keep an eye on...I just don't ever believe a Mater Dei kid is coming here until ink is on the paper...Elijah Barnes from Texas is another that I wouldn't rule out with JL on the recruitment...frankly any of Melendez/Faraimo/Wyatt/Barnes would make me happy)
CB: Devin Sanchez (best CB in the country and possibly #1 overall...nuff said)
CB: Na'eem Offord (I flirted with the idea of putting him on my last list, but couldn't see it and felt it was too good to be true...well it wasn't and he is a Buckeye, this DB class will be one for the ages)
CB: Blake Woodby (probably the best slot CB in the nation, perfect fit into this class)
CB/S: Dorian Brew (I see him ending up at safety with his growth, Vonn Bell type with a little more meat on the bones...moved the commitment back to enjoy some more visits but he's going to be a Buckeye)

S: Trey McNutt (so fortunate to have Brew and McNutt from Ohio that are pretty much guaranteed Buckeyes...McNutt is a top 5 safety in the nation without a doubt and might end up being the #1 safety this time next year)
S: Faheem Delane (actually pretty confident we win this one...probably the #1 safety in America and would be a huge addition)

- Note that there are plenty more names that I could see in this class...Montgomery at QB is possible, Louis and Davison at RB I think we will continue to pursue, WR will continue to evolve, no idea what the plan is at OL outside Lowe/Gach, DE has a lot of candidates, DT needs to have some more names emerge imo, and LB outside of Lee is somewhat of a wildcard. Will be interesting to see how the next few months pan out.
Changes/comments highlighted in bold above after the Offord commitment and a few recent updates. '25 is already looking like a monster and maybe the top class in the nation depending on how we do on OL/DL...GREAT start with Lowe and Mathis, but we have have to stack up numbers with quality talent to make this a truly elite class. Every other position we are going to be ecstatic with.

Didn’t Melendez commit to Miami?
Do you still see him in this class?

Screwed the pooch on that one, missed that commitment entirely. Thought that one would go our way, but any of Faraimo/Wyatt/Barnes would be an improvement if we can land 1-2 of those guys (I like Mendez a lot, but just saying that one doesn't really sting).

OSU could finish with Alford instead of Melendez, which is an upgrade tbh. And then if they land 1 of the 3 you mentioned, this class is still every bit as good as you posted earlier.

I went into my last prediction to add Alford after the recent traction, going to correct that now because as of the moment, I see Alford as "in". Do need to add him into the 2025 offer thread, he's not on there for some reason and I think that is how I missed adding him. But agreed Alford > Melendez if that comes to fruition.

HEAT CHECK: FIVE-STAR 2025 CORNERBACK DORIAN BREW MOVES TO THE TOP OF THE LIST FOR OHIO STATE AS TWO NEW NAMES ARE ADDED TO THE BOARD

Since the last edition of the Heat Check was published, Ohio State added two massive commitments to its 2025 class.

Four-star Ohio offensive tackle Carter Lowe, ranked No. 3 in the January edition, gave his verbal commitment to the Buckeyes, while Tim Walton continued his hot streak by adding five-star prospect Na'eem Offord, the No. 1 cornerback in the country.

OSU’s current cycle stands at eight commits total and has a bevy of momentum, particularly in the secondary. And some key names could come off the board soon. We’ve added two new names to the February edition of the board, with offensive tackle, safety and defensive line still being heavily represented at the top as OSU’s positions of greatest need for the 2025 cycle.

As always, rankings for Eleven Warriors’ monthly recruiting editorial are based on many factors, including roster needs for the Buckeyes in future seasons, the caliber of the player and how likely that player is to come to Columbus on National Signing Day.

Am salivating over Script's list of 'gotta gets'. Especially the beef (OT) on the list. With Lowe committed, those two would cement the OL for a time. Still am of the belief that will need 1-2 OT in the spring portal, hopefully for two years, until these guys transform their bodies, get college footwork down, and learn college blocking schemes. For some strange reason, when I see Bama on the 'leaders' am not so depressed. Also believe that Day & Co needs to solidify the DL coaching situation, with an heir-apparent to LJ so recruits can see that there is a succession plan. Finally, am amazed to see the potential of hiring a Chip Kelley to be OC, when Day was HIS disciple once upon a time, and now the wheel has gone around where he'll be working in S&G for Day. Yeah, believe that BoB will don BC colors, given his family issues. Anyway, as always, life in the spring overbounds with optimism on the football front. 2024 is shaping up to be a great year, and 2025 could be even better. Gotta stack several classes together to get to a championship (modified by NIL/portal impacts).....Go Bucks!
