Which CB Will Replace Fox?

Dang Killer...you could be a DB yourself with all of that backpedalling.

It's not backpedaling it is what I have always said an it is people reading only what they want to see that makes you think that.

Why would coaches always refer to film for true accuracy if this was true.

Game film doesn't look like what you see on TV it is from an ariel view, I am sure it is the press box which is higher than were I sit.

trashing a kid who has played his guts out for this program

Re-read what I wrote and tell me I am trashing Fox! Come on! How on earth did you figure out how to turn on the computer without reading, surely your more observant that that. Am I trashing Ross because he can't find the hole? Am I trashing Zwick because he has thrown into double coverage and almost cost us the game? Is that trashing or observing? Give me a break. I have said pleanty of positive things about him, and will continue to do so, but I do see weakness in his game. That is all this is really about and you continue to miss the point.

For Christ's sake at least know your stuff before you go spouting off.

I would like you to try to do the same thing.

The sad thing here is how ridiculous you are making yourself look...pile of shit?

I'll admidt that wasn't one of my better moments, but you are impossible, and remind me of everything I hate about people like you act like on this board.

i mean give it up already killer....EVERYONE...including real coaches....believe that fox is a great corner....but somehow your view from c deck is right on and everyone else in the world is wrong....how many times do you have to stick your finger in a light socket before you realize that its not a good idea????

Uh, didn't Dantonio completely avoid Fox during the Cincy game? If there's any indicator of how good a CB is, it's when that CB's former DC comes back as head coach of the first opponent of the year and totally avoids said CB. If anyone would know of a weakness in Fox to exploit, it would be Dantonio.
No, Dumbass, that was all part of the conspiracy to keep the world from finding out that Fox is a charade at cornerback. Dantonio has a bet with Rick Neuheisel that there will be a white NFL cornerback next year. He made the bet before taking the UC job.

I wouldn't say he avoided him. Gino had either pressure or Fox was close enough that it wasn't going to be a clean passsing lane so he did the smart thing and look elsewhere. I thought I said I had noticed an improvement.

Dantonio's game plan was very weak offensively. I still don't know what the hell he was trying to accomplish.

I know Gino went after Fox a few times to start the game and got a few, one stands out, maybe that was it, competions against him, but if memory served correctly they had better matchups with the FB/TE vs LBs. It's certainly not like they torched Underwood or Youboty either.

When younger players (Underwood and Youbouty) go to Fox for advise on playing the position, then he must be doing something right.

Fox technically is sound, he has seen it all, and been beaten by a lot of it. Anytime a Captain speaks you listen. It isn't like Fox doesn't have experience, it isn't like he doesn't have anything to offer. He does! Absolutely and they should listen to him and what he has to say. He knows all of the tricks that the Offenses will throw at you he knows all of the schemes, probably has seen every route, every move. Our players would be stupid not to listen to him. I once again am not blind to the benefits Fox has, I just think he would be better, and we as a team would be better if he played Safety and came up to play CB/nickelback, when we go against a spread attack or in a passing situation.

but you are impossible
Ditto

Here is my point...I can discuss anything with any dissenting opinion just like BuckIpower and I did concerning coverage philosophy and usage of the 3-4. We disagreed vehemently yet still ended the discussion complimenting one another. That is fine. However, when you constantly throw out your little comments regarding cheerleaders, stupidity, and now reading skills but are still wonking about respect...that is hypocrisy. If you want to have a discussion..let's talk. If you throw your smack..you get it back. Simple.

As for knowing my stuff, I don't claim to know it all. However, I will claim to know secondary play. Hell, that has been my life for the last 6 years...I don't know jack.

Gamefilm depends on the position...tight shot, wide shot, endzone shot. Your C-deck view of the secondary is definitely more limited than the numerous television cameras, angles, and replays. But you can have whatever opinion you want...

Hold whatever opinion you like bro and discredit whomever you like...this discussion has become pointless.

DiHard not everyone thinks that way. I have not been the only person who is critical of Fox's play. One of the few who is not afraid to say it on this board, but I certainly am not the only one. Much the same Diz was not the only one who thought McM should have been starting, in fact it was from what I knew about 50:50. That however is an old argument that doesn't need to be brought back, and that I didn't agree with.

Look I am fine with being in the Minority. Getting back to my original point again, I just dont understand how people think our pass defense got worse when Fox went out of the game. I just don't see any logic other than the one blown coverage, (which is coaching and a mistake that will be easily corrected), that would make you think that.

That was the point I was making I don't see it I thought it was a stupid comment that could not be backed up, and still do. Instead everyone wants to think I am trying to bash on Fox as a person. I am not! I think he has been a weak link in our defense I think would be better off somewhere else. yada yada yada. My point has not changed please read it before you respond.

Fox technically is sound, he has seen it all, and been beaten by a lot of it.

Talk about giving a guy a compliment and taking it right back.

Anytime a Captain speaks you listen.

This has nothing to do with Fox being a captain. I don't think Underwood and Youbouty seeks advice from Frasier or Nugent on how to play conrner.

I just think he would be better, and we as a team would be better if he played Safety and came up to play CB/nickelback, when we go against a spread attack or in a passing situation.

There's a bunch of coaches on the OSU staff that would disagree with you. Besides, if you think that he's not very good at covering the opposition why do you want to use him to play CB/nickelback in spread attacks or in passing situation. Would it satisfy you if Tressel just said that they were going to start three safeties and one corner, but Fox's responsibility would be to cover the WR.

No, it is not a white conspriracy, he is just extremely loyal to a fault, especially to Seniors. Why do you think Lydell is playing, because he is the best back we have? C'mon.

So... what about the 2 years prior... when Fox STILL started? Too loyal to his Sophs, too? I don't think he's out do damage himself by starting inferior players like Fox. I don't know whether it hurt him either, going to two straight feista bowls.

Not sure if this is the right place, but as long as we're discussing Killers football knowledge...

I did hear the one of the commentators say that Marshall ran everything to the white side of the field. I assumed he meant Fraser and Hawk or Carpenter, but he could have been talking about Dustin too.

Oh wait... he said "wide side"... my bad.

KILLER ASS thxs for your point of view. If you disagree thats fine but, to go that far makes me understand onething about you. ghetto boy

tressel and dantonio did nothing but, praise about fox being a great corner.
What happened bad against cincinnati in pass coverage nothing . and who supposedly have the better passing team dumbass and I was at the game and did n't fox go out in the 2nd quarter injured first then tried to keep playing.

white supremist, thats good. Ya I love it when a white guy has the highest vertical jump and the best 40 time on the team.

I thought Fox was the weakest link in the secondary in 2002. The Illinois game was proof to that. But he was a Sophomore and the secondary and defense was amazing. So being the weakest on a defense as tough as the 2002 Buckeye defense doesn't say much. But they did pick of Fox a lot, and rightfully so. I thought Fox got extremely better in 2003. He WAS breaking up passes, or not allowing the WR to even get open. His tackling got better and you could see how he was learning and growing. Going into this season I expected Fox to be the strongest player in the secondary, and he was during the Cincinnati game.

BUT to say that our secondary got weaker by his injury is not accurate in my mind. I think that Ashton Youboty grew up a ton yesterday and I was quite amazed at how well he played, although I shouldn't really be, because as I said before the season even started...we are a lot deeper in the secondary than people think. These young guys are the real thing. They have the speed and the talent...they just lack experience. But man oh man does a down to the wire win gain you a lot of experience really fast. That Marshall game was the best thing that could have happened to our young secondary.

That said...the loss of Fox's leadership and experience can not be replaced. I would rather have Fox out there this Saturday than any other CB we have. He has seen these recievers before last year. He's already studied and played against the NCSt offense. He's been in dozens of pressure games. Nothing is going to phase this guy. If the N.C. State game is close next week, Fox is the man that we need out there because the NCSt recievers are going to be a lot better than Marshall's were. And even though there is a lot of talent behind Fox, I think that Fox would be a lot less likely to make a game losing mistake than Youboty or Ginn. Not to take away from those two fine atheletes. LOSING A CAPTIAN AT ANY POSITION HURTS! But it can be overcome, especially when you have the young talent the Buckeyes do.

Dustin being out is going to give Snyder and Tucker a good look at some young guys like Ginn and Youboty in lots of different situations. I feel, as I know the coaching staff does, that there is potential in theses guys to become far better than Fox ever has been. It's not that we will get worse in the secondary. It is just that somebody else will have to step up, and will, and play more of a leader type roll...I hope Underwood can do this. And Fox will still be with the team and on the sideline and may even get to spend more time helping the younger players develop. Fox has learned and knows a lot on how to play the secondary.

THE BIG PLUS that I see is that when Dustin comes back think about how much deeper and more experienced our secondary will be. We will need this depth and experience for the final two games at Purdue and then against scUM. These will be the biggest tests for our secondary all year. Fox will be missed most this Saturday, but after that I think the secondary will be able to do more than hold it's own against Northwestern, Wisconsin, and Iowa before Fox gets back. Hopefully he's back before the Indiana game though...can you believe they beat Oregon!!! haha

as i recall he was playing injured/sick for that game, and also if i recall correctly he made a game-saving play when he pushed the illinois reciever out of bounds in the endzone.

I understand you have a clipboard, well good for you so that makes you the pumba of football knowledge. If that is the case why hasn't Tressel asked you to join his staff, for that matter why hasn't Parcells? I mean you are a football genius right? Or are you more of a talent guy? Surely you have been contacted by ESPN, the Dispatch? Someone? Bottom line: a degree in PE doesn't make you an expert, not by a long stretch.
Obviously Tressels staff thinks Fox is pretty good enough to start as a Sophomore on our national championship team. Last year when Underwood started to step up, Gamble became the interchangable part...Fox was never doubted. Since Fox sucks so bad, I expect Parcells and every other "expert" in the NFL to leave him undrafted. Only the best players in the world are in the NFL right? I realize a degree in computer science and information systems analysis doesn't qualify me to be a football "expert"...but I don't have to even be a college DB coach to use my common sense and see that our team has been winning ever since Fox has started...we've had one of the top defenses in the nation, and NOW he's been voted our captain. Dustin Fox is one of my favorite Buckeyes.

Also...lay off of Grad. If you want to have a dissident opinion, thats great...in fact, thats what these message boards are for. Resorting to name calling and insults to one anyone is trashy and does nothing but make you look bad. OSUgrad21 has been one of our most informative and constructive members. It won't make you seem any more intelligent by insulting him.

Please tone down the racist stuff (I've received a complaint, and not from KillerNut). I doubt KillerNut is black anyways (check out his avatar...I would guess that not too many black guys would choose the Blues Brothers for their avatar).
