Kobi Simmons (G Memphis Grizzlies)

Jerry Meyer thinks it's between OSU and UNLV for Kobi, and he thinks UNLV has the edge.
I do not even know who Jerry Meyer is but I think Simmons would make a very poor decision if he decided to go to UNLV to improve his stock to play at the next level. Matta has proven a couple times that he knows how to take guys like Simmons and get them to the next level. Even Kentucky:frown: would be a better choice than UNLV but I do not think that their ass coach would let Simmons play PG like Matta would if he came to Ohio State.

Well a player can get to the NBA from anywhere talent-wise, but you're right from the standpoint that Matta does a great job of showcasing elite players to help them pad their stats and help their draft standing, and of course playing a couple guys on the ball who weren't billed as PGs coming in helped enhance their stock greatly.

I am ready to take back my comments about Matta not beating KY in recruiting, I can see it possibly happening in this case, but it is a case where it seems like KY wants Kobi at a different position than what he wants to play. My hunch is Kobi is just waiting to see how things shake out at KY (i.e., whether they get a commitment from top-10 PG recruit DeAaron Fox after he visits in October) before making his decision.

Jerry Meyer gave a crystal ball prediction to OSU late last week, as have 2 KY insiders. It looks as if KY is going to get Malik Monk at the combo guard spot.
I do not know I am still leery of UNLV because the articles I have his father really has said some very nice things about them but I suppose Jerry Meyer knows a lot more then the writers who wrote the articles with the statements from his dad.

The one thing that I do not understand is that we are fully loaded on scholarships assuming the 2 bigs(Potter and Funderburk) commit early and I do not want Simmons dangling out there until next Spring. I know of a scenario but I am not going to speculate.

UNLV is in an even worse position than OSU scholarship-wise, they would need 2 or 3 players to leave the team early to have room for him.

... if a recruit isn't ready to pick a school in the fall, he usually ends up picking some different school in the spring.

I guess our friend @DZ83CK and Matta sort of think alike which is scary because Matta does not think that everyone on a team comes back the next year because of transfers, playing in Europe, or declaring early. In reading between the lines of this article, I think Matta things that Lyle might leave early but you really have to read between the lines.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Everyone in the world knows Ohio State is still recruiting 2016 five-star guard Kobi Simmons, so there was no reason for Thad Matta to duck it.

Of course, Matta can't talk about Simmons directly, but the message has to be consistent. So when asked on Thursday if the Buckeyes were done recruiting for 2016, Matta didn't close the door.

"Where we go from here, we're always recruiting," Matta said. "But I know we probably don't need much more size anymore, especially with what's coming down the pipe for us."
