More Discussion on Marijuana (Merged with Skeete thread discussion)

Nothing like seeing the Honor Society and star athlete on their Xanga site smoking weed and drinking beer.

Anyhow, back on topic, I was worried about kicking even more than Defense this coming year and hope that Skeete gets things back together and gives the scholarship players a run for their money.
Stay off of facebook then, i couldnt believe how many underage players were drinking in their pictures. Also something cool is that players like Troy and Teddy arn't on Facebook.. and they arn't in any pictures, period.

I agree, Skeete will only benefit the "P's" with some good competiton..

I am aware in other cultures like New Guinea and others that this is a rite of passage.

I wasn't speaking of those if you read correctly, I was talking about the athletes and scholars that many teachers and kids fawn over who actually have this character weakness.
character weakness? are you freaking serious? do you not realize that when this country was in its infancy, hemp, and marijuana was not only legal to grow and produce in this country, IT WAS REQUIRED BY LAW?? are you not aware that hemp was LEGAL TENDER? and it stayed legal until the late 1930's, when racism and greed caused it to be made illegal, mostly through shady dealings and half truths. William Randolph Hearst, who owned damn near every newspaper in the country wanted hemp off the market because he had a vested interest in the forest industry. so he spread lies and propaganda in his papers. DuPont wanted hemp off the market because they wanted a market for nylon. so they supported Abisher (the original drug czar) and funded his racist vendetta, and eventually he got his way, and became rich by getting the cannabis plant banned.

when the Marijauana Tax Act actually went through in 1937, members of Congress were shocked to learn that they had just banned hemp. up until that point, they didn't even realize that the horrific 'marihuana' that Abisher railed against was the same plant that helped fund the Revolution, and without which this country would surely have failed.

do yourself a favor, and try LEARNING FOR YOURSELF, rather than blindly following like a sheep.

Dude, chill the freak out! Just b/c you and your buddies smoke pot and I don't and have a problem with kids doing it, don't take it out on me.

If you smoke pot that's fine but don't expect me to condone it just because you have no problem with it.

Shouldn't you be busy getting loaded like every other night, hitting on married chicks and then going home empty-handed?

Jesus man!

I am not alright with my kids growing up and smoking pot. Therefor I won't set here and say it is OK for others to b/c that would be hypocritical.

So, if you think it's no big deal to use/sell weed, then you should be alright with your own kids doing it. I'm not.

??????

I'm talking about Middle School and High School kids.

Just disappointing as a teacher and mentor to see some of the kids you respect the most doing things like that and then being dumb enough to document it.
i meant it in the sense that it's just as bad as a xanga or myspace.. i never had either of those two but plenty of my friends were suspended for some pictures the adminstration found online..

I am not OK with it but am not going to dissown them either becasue my boys have good values and are excellent students. One is an A student at Miami and the other is doing a great job in HS. Yes, they both smoke pot. I mainly preach that if you tell the truth and work hard everything else will fall in place.

I have a question, in denver they recently passed a law that made pot more tolerable and my buddy was saying marlboro has thousands of acres ready to be planted on the day it becomes legal, so the question is how many years until it becomes legalized, if at all? And do you agree with it being legal? What would the effects be on the united states economy?

EDIT: did some research and found this: www.NORML.org didnt know in ohio you can have up to 100g and get a 100 dollar fine. In colorado, you can have an ounce and its a "petty" misdemeanor..

they also listed states that have researched it and all concluded it would be a benefit to their economy.

Ohio has decriminilized marijuana and isn't too tough on it

also something else, which I have done, is salvia. My buddies and I did it one night.. and you lose touch with reality and was probably one of, if not the top, my most scariest experinces. Its a trip "more intense than acid(which i havnt done and now never will even think of it)" and it's perfectly legal. Go to water beds and stuff and you can buy it.. we bought 20X, and it went as high as 80X. How can something like this be legal to buy at 18 and smoking pot isnt tolerated?

Waterbeds and Stuff, a perfect cover for a drug paraphernalia store.

What the hell kind of defense is this? Are you going to start defending cocaine usage because:
"Coca-Cola was named back in 1885 for its two "medicinal" ingredients: extract of coca leaves and kola nuts."
Just because something has happened in our history, doesn't mean it's not a sign of character weakness. This country was built of slavery too, so is it wrong to insult slaves now?

I understand that your point was more so that it was outlawed for reasons that weren't true. (I have no idea but will take your word for it) . The point is there is CURRENT research that has shown that it has harmful effects. You can argue to what extent it is harmful; and that cigarettes are more dangerous if you'd like... but fact is it's illegal and to a indeterminable degree harmful. How can you call that anything but a character weakness. I think you're just taking the term with too much offense, everyone has weakness to certain degree's it is natural.
This same research goes for tobacco and alcohol too really, but the fact is they are legal, even though they shouldn't be, but just because they have a propaganda money machine that allows them to stay legal doesn't merit that weed should be. Two wrongs don't make a right.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you're point here, but I don't see what you posted has anything to do with character weakness. [FONT=Trebuchet MS,Book Antiqua,Bookman Old Style,Arial]

I agree with the point of this, but isn't obeying all laws, not just the ones you agree with, part of telling the truth and being a stand up person.

Guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on this topic.

Guess that depends on your thoughts on Thoreauvian civil disobedience, though I don't see how committing a minor misdemeanor really makes one a dishonest person. Possession of marijuana in Ohio is about as serious as a speeding ticket--can a speeder not be a stand-up person?
