Rob Gronkowski (party buses and porn stars)

After he visits U of Arizona in January (early - say around the 8th?) can he come into Glendale on the 8th for an 'unofficial' for the NC game? As a guest of the Buckeyes? I seem to recollect that OSU had some recruits for the NC game against Miami - which were from Florida........

Don't believe that school can pay for transportation for an unofficial visit, but if they were there already.......

Anyone clear away the fog from my vision ? Thanks.

No, the school cannot entertain guests at the NC and no, we didn't have guests at the NC game against Miami...Rob would have to buy the tickets himself.

13.6.6.2.2 NCAA Championships or Other Postseason Contests

The provision of complimentary or reduced-cost admissions to prospective student-athletes for an NCAA championship (all rounds) or other postseason contests (e.g., bowl game, NAIA or NIT championship) constitutes excessive entertainment and is prohibited. The prospective student-athlete may purchase these tickets only in the same manner as any other member of the general public. (Revised: 1/10/92)

Thanks Wad - it must have been practices that were attended by Florida recruits, not the game itself. Too bad, but would give two teams an unfair advantage, I guess. My bad.

You are exactly right...it was practices that recruits atteneded, prior to the team leaving for AZ...

I think the rule goes farther than that. You aren't allowed ANY visits off-campus. That was what I was told in 2002 when OSU went to Paul Brown Stadium to play UC. The Bearcats weren't allowed to have any recruits to the biggest game in their history due to it being off-campus.

I agree but it will be interesting to see if he will fit in this class. There are so many good players that want in.

Well from the sound of it the staff wants him to be one of the players that will get in...

I don't have no problem with them adding a TE that looks to be in the mold of the TEs we have been playing under Tressel that are more blockers that can catch the ball then the other way around.

Also keep in mind that Te's usually have versatility and can move from TE/DE/LB/OT depending on how good their athletic ability is.

I agree with you...it seems like we really want Rob and I have no objections. He has great athletic ability for his size though...he would be a good addition.

Rob was interviewed in the 12/5 edition of the Bucknuts radio hour, and his final comment made it sound like we have a very good chance of getting him. He said, when asked about the tOSU/Florida game, "It would just be amazing if they win, knowing I'm going to the school that just won the National Championship."

Then Duane Long said he's not coming here...so who knows.

Remember, when Nick Claytor was interviewed on BN radio, he made it sound like he was a done deal to OSU. Then, he committed to Ga Tech. Finally, we learned that Nick did not even have had an offer from Ohio State. So.... this might be a similar situation.

Good point, This situation has been hard to follow all year and with an early offer to a TE makes me think that you could very well be right here...
