TE/DE Redgie Arden (official thread)

Can anyone tell me what Redgie being arrested 2 years ago has to do with anything related to this story? Sounds like the Huntington paper didn't want to make their guys look like they were beating up on some choir boy.

Sounds like the Herd guys saw a chance to beat up on someone and they took it. It's not like Arden would have a bunch of boys in that bar taking up for him. The police can't find anyone who was hit by Arden. Sounds like wrong place wrong time for Redgie Arden.

That's a real class move by the Herd players. They are in for a beating of their own on September 11. Wouldn't want to be Stan Hill that day!

I hope our boys will keep a clean act during the game... I can already see the ESPN highlight reel with a bunch of cheap shots to herd players to avenge what they did to Arden :(

now a nice hit or two on some of those punks during a kickoff or punt might be in order

I'm trying not to look at this through scarlet lenses, but I have a hard time believing that Arden did anything to provoke this, except possibly talking a little smack. I, unfortunately, have been in my share of fights, and I've seen many others. Never, I repeat, NEVER, have I seen an outnumbered person start a fight, or even respond physically to being punched when outnumbered such as Arden was. This is a situation where Arden was probably outnumbered something like 100-1. No way does he throw a punch first, and the only reason he would have thrown a punch at all was if he knew he was going to get his ass kicked anyways, and decided to go down swinging. Plus, if he's still in the hospital, it is pretty clear that he was punched and kicked after he was down. These Marshall punks deserve the beating we're going to give them on the field...but I agree with gbear, let's hope they keep it clean.

Arden hospitalized after fight in West Virginia

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Ohio State junior defensive end Redgie Arden remained in a Huntington, W.Va., hospital today, recovering from injuries he suffered during a fight in the shadows of the Marshall University football stadium early Sunday morning.

Arden was listed as a victim in the incident. Huntington police said officers responded at 12:35*a.m. to a "large fight" occurring in the 2000 block of Third Avenue and thought to be just outside the 20th St. Bar. The report indicated Arden was beaten by assailants identified only as possible Marshall football players.

Marshall defensive end Jonathan Goddard was arrested and charged with shoving one of the responding officers in the chest, according to Huntington Police Capt. Steve Hall. It was not clear whether Goddard was involved in the beating of Arden.

The police report said Arden suffered an apparent broken nose and had severe swelling on the right side of his face, according to observations of an officer. Arden was the only person transported from the scene to a hospital.

A spokesperson at Cabell Huntington Hospital would confirm only that a Phillip R. Arden had been admitted and gave no details of his injuries. Attempts to reach Arden or his family were unsuccessful.

An Ohio State athletics department spokesman said this morning that football coach Jim Tressel was still gathering information on the incident and that he had no immediate comment.

The OSU players had Saturday night off, their first break since preseason camp began 11 days earlier, but they had been given a 1*a.m. curfew. Why Arden was in Huntington wasn't clear, though he is from nearby Ironton, Ohio, and reports indicated his girlfriend attends Marshall.

Hall said there were conflicting reports on what started the fight. Some witnesses said Arden was attacked simply because he was a known player for Ohio State, which Marshall will play for the first time, Sept.*11 in Ohio Stadium. Others said Arden went after a Marshall player first before suffering the beating.

A media report in Huntington indicated the Marshall players were hosting a party in celebration of the end of their two-a-day preseason camp, and that admittance was by invitation only.

Arden was arrested twice within 15 months in Ironton for driving under the influence, the last time coming in June 2003. He had been in no known serious trouble since then and this preseason was competing for a spot in the two-deep at defensive end.

You wont have a choking ala Reynolds situation but you will have Stan Hill leave the game with a concusion or serious hit. He will be getting rid of the ball real quickly or he is a dead man. Their best WR is out with a knee brace as well.

OSU will play them hard and beat them on the field with their play. I bet that the coaches will impose a penalty for any player that talks about this publically..we will see it on the field.

"If they used empty hands, feet, knees, elbows, etc they are going to have to sit out at least half a game. If I found out they used a bottle on him we are going to have to get real strict-maybe as much as one game. Just ask Marlin how strongly I feel about these types of situations."-Lloyd Carr

Every damned article I've read about this incident has to mention that Arden was arrested a year or two ago. What the hell does that have to do with it? It's called "casting dispersions". If they beat the shit out of him in a ganged-up-on manner, it doesn't matter he got arrested 2 years ago.

Media types....oy.

Honestly, it has nothing to do with THIS incident. Except in that you could possibly draw conclusions that he is a "trouble" player. The old " trouble just seems to find him " type thing. I know a few of these guys - generally trouble doesn't just find them....they find it. Plus, the media is looking to sensationalize anything they can. How many "Tressel is running a renegade program" articles do you think will sprout up because of this? It doesn't even matter if he is completely innocent, if the media smells blood....

i dont see the connection between tressel running a thug camp and arden getting beat down by anywhere from 3 to 20 marshall guys.

when i was a kid....the thugs were the ones who did the beating in a group of 20...not the 1 who got beat down. :roll2:

Hello all....first post here.. I'm a Marshall fan. I really do hate to hear what happened with the fight and all. I haven't heard anything new. It is an unfortunate incident. I hope he is ok. With that being said... I'm looking forward to the experience of an Ohio State football game. I had family who used to live in Columbus and all I ever heard growing up was you have to see it to believe it. I love the Herd like you all love the Buckeyes, I hope it's a great game with the Herd coming out on top...Good luck the rest of the season...

Very true Dave...

Its unfortunate that this incident happened...

However, I do believe your boys made every OSU player circle that date on the calendar.

Welcome aboard

Welcome to the site. Try not to take anything too personally. We're more than a little unhappy collectively at the thought of one of our players being put in the hospital by a group of Marshall players. Hearing about him getting kicked in the face while down on the ground is going to bring up some relatively ugly sentiments, so I hope you brought at least somewhat thick skin.

That aside, if you plan on sticking around for a while, PM 'vrbryant' and let him know you're a Herd fan. He'll make a little icon to identify you as such. You might notice some USC Trojans and a Notre Dame (that was hard for me to say properly) fan running around with the same.
