No doubt about it. I don't like it either. A big part of my youth will be gone when the Ol' Ballpark in the Bronx is demolished.
But the bottom line is this: they're old buildings. Sooner or later, public safety will come into question. An old 2 thousand pound girder fell from the upper deck at Yankee Stadium in 1998 - thank God no one was in the Stadium when it happened.
And also, social issues come into place: a new Yankee Stadium will help revive what is a bad neighborhood in the South Bronx. I love the three jewel Stadiums in baseball, but I can also see why they need new venues (taking the much higher revenue completely out of the equation).
